Happy Valentine’s Day! Top NYFW Picks: Donna Karan and Zac Posen

[Donna Karan Fall 2012; Zac Posen Fall 2012]
There was superb and well tailored menswear were construction from both Donna Karan and Zac Posen. Donna Karan had a more modern approach to her collection even though it seems as if this was an ode to the 90s power suit she was famously known for reinventing. And she’s reinvented it yet again. Instead of highlighting the body, she hides it but not quite. In this particular Donna Karan look, the plunging neckline and the thigh-high slit give subtle reminders that behind all the tailoring is a woman whose intellectuality is just a threatening as her sexuality.
Meanwhile Zac Posen‘s collection was designed with emphasis on the female anatomy by highlighting the waist, chest, and hips. In this look we see the synched waist, the flaring out of the jacket and then emerging itself to the hips. The neckline on this jacket is incredible. He, without a doubt, is the prince of fairytale romanticism, but that doesn’t stop him from adding something unexpected and innovative like the neckline on this jacket. Its almost a contradiction to his aesthetic, but its what makes Zac Posen intriguing as a designer and must see for his show.
The Statement: Donna Karan and Zac Posen seem to agree that the woman of today is more in charge with her life than pass times. As we all know in fashion is that when it comes to personal style we tend to dress according to our mood. So what would the businesswoman wear to work, social gatherings, and casual days? Donna Karan and Zac Posen of course.
